The Florida Workers' Compensation Hall of Fame
The Florida Workers' Compensation Hall of Fame was established in 2012 by the Workers' Compensation Institute. In that first year, there were 17 inducted. All were currently active in professions involved with workers' compensation, except one posthumously. Thereafter, a "Legends" group was created to honor those who had likewise contributed to this community, but who also had departed through retirement or otherwise.
Hon. Israel Abrams Hall of Fame Legend, Inducted 2012.
Deputy Israel Abrams (Izzy)(1924-2011) earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami (1952). He was a Deputy Commissioner from 1955 to 1960, originally in Miami. He was initially appointed during the term of Governor Leroy Collins. During his tenure, the demands justified establishing a presence in Broward County, and Judge Abrams was tasked with serving part-time there in conjunction with his duties in Miami. He later served as Judge of Compensation Claims, pro hac vice, January-February 1992. After his initial public service, he practiced exclusively in workers’ compensation as a member of the labor law firm of Kaplan, Ser, and Abrams. That firm dissolved, and Izzy became a sole practitioner in North Miami Beach until his death.
This is derived from Langham, Floridiana and the Workers’ Compensation Adjudicators, 2024.
